our philosophy

This isn’t a movie and it ain’t your Grandma’s therapy. You won’t be stretched out on a couch with some lifeless clinician in a monotone voice asking, ‘How do you feel about that?’ and ‘Tell me about your mother’.

This is for real people with real problems wanting real results.

Therapy is a collaborative process and we aim to make it approachable and comfortable with real conversation using everyday language.  We’ll laugh with you, we swear on occasion, we’ll ask about your weekend and how your girl’s trip went.

But we’ll also confront you with the truth. We aren't afraid to have those tough conversations, provide feedback and call you on your shit. After all, you're here for results and we won't co-sign mediocrity or pat you on the back pretending everything will be ok.

Action = Results.

Under the umbrella of Positive Psychology, we practice solution-focused brief therapy SFBT which focuses on your strengths, not your weaknesses.  We help you navigate the future, not dwell on your past. We want to provide you with insight and tools that you can apply to your life NOW to see immediate change and results.

We want you looking forward to your appointments and leave feeling empowered, ready to take on the world.

If you put in the commitment and the work during the therapy process, we guarantee you will see a transformation in your life. If you aren’t happy with the results, you can always return to the life you have now. What have you got to lose?

personally:

I was born and raised in Vernon, British Columbia and am incredibly grateful to still call the sunny Okanagan home to this day.

With 15 years of personal sobriety and over a decade working in the field of mental health and addiction, I have helped hundreds of individuals at various stages of change and recovery.  I brought addiction recovery coaching to the Okanagan and am considered the gold standard for high quality care and results.

I am an avid fly fisherman, out on the water every chance I get chasing monster rainbow trout and camping nearly every weekend with the love of my life at my side.  When I’m not fishing and camping, I enjoy practicing yoga, working out and unwind in the evenings by watching crappy tv designed to melt my brain.

I have an amazing partner who enhances every aspect of my life and supports all my outrageous ideas and ambitions.  We share a love of cooking and a passion for helping others. If you want to know more about me, just ask!

What is the story you tell yourself and when did it start? Does it reflect your reality? What would you like your story to be? Answering these questions was my ticket to freedom and you can feel that way too.

My life has been filled with many experiences ranging from the good, the bad, to the ugly. Sometimes our journey can become convoluted but our experience is our greatest teacher.  Your reaction to adversity, not the adversity itself determines how your story will play out. We all have a story to tell from our past. Let us help you change the narrative of your future.

personally:

Making the decision to leave my hometown of Portage la Prairie Manitoba wasn't easy, but in my heart I knew it was necessary. I knew that in order to become the best version of myself, it would mean drastic changes. In 2015 I made the decision to rewrite my narrative and call the beautiful Okanagan home. In the years since, not only have I found my life partner, I have found myself.

I’m a daughter, a stepdaughter, and a little sister. I am a woman, a friend, a partner, soulmate and a very proud cat mom. I love camping, fishing and I am grateful to have an amazing partner who shares my passion for everything outdoors.

My journey of self discovery required showing myself compassion, empathy and grace and I offer the same to all my clients. I believe in the three C's of life: Choices, Chances and Changes. 'You must make a choice to take a chance, or your life will never change'. -Ziglar-

what is sfbt?

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term, goal-focused, evidence-based therapeutic approach. It incorporates positive psychology principles and practices, helping clients change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on problems.

Obviously you must discuss the problem to find a solution, but beyond understanding what the problem is and deciding how to address it, solution-focused therapy will not dwell on every detail of the problem you are experiencing.

Solution-focused brief therapy doesn’t require a deep dive into your childhood and the ways in which your past has influenced your present. Instead, it will root your sessions firmly in the present while working toward a future in which your current problems have less of an impact on your life.

For the majority of our clients, it is often more important to find solutions than it is to analyze the problem in great detail.

The goal of SFBT is to find and implement a solution to the problem or problems as soon as possible to minimize time spent in therapy and, more importantly, time spent struggling or suffering
