Don’t make this mistake when goal setting:
Many times we set goals to run away from something.
‘When I lose 20 pounds I’ll finally be happy with myself’
‘Once I get shredded and huge, nobody will bug me’
‘I’ll go to college and prove that I’m not a failure’
When you set goals as a way to run away from pain, the more stuck you will remain long
term–not able to truly obtain that inner peace.
This leads to two options:
- You don’t reach your goal which only solidifies your inadequacy
- You accomplish your goals but don’t take satisfaction in it and that inner voice finds
something different to torment you with
You have to stop changing the circumstances in order to create happiness and start by
changing yourself.
Healing isn’t accomplished by escaping pain.
Healing is obtained when we learn to love ourselves:
-as we are
-unconditionally
-for the long haul
-without judgement
-through the pain
The more you love yourself, the less you correlate self worth to accomplishing your goals.
Goals aren’t an escape from our fears, they are about accomplishing things in line with our
values.
That is FREEDOM!
